MIGHTY TO SAVE!!!

We are burdened with what has been happening in our society, particularly to our youths... the crime, violence, murders, abductions, rapes, etc. Well, Fruitful Trees Ministries is partnering with one of our Affiliates, Kavan Allen from the Gospel Rap/Reggae Duo, G-Tuff, to positively impact the lives of teens in the Metropolitan Area of Jamaica's Capital city, Kingston. We are planning to host a 3-day camp/conference for these teens where we will be able to positively and permanently impact their lives - if we can jolt their minds towards a positive way forward, their actions will reflect the change.

The theme is "MIGHTY TO SAVE!" and the purpose of this event is two-folds:

  • To help Teenage Believers (Christians) to realise that they are the "Carriers" of the solution i.e. the Kingdom of God and

  • Not-yet-believing teenagers (non-Christians) to realise that they were created to become a part of the solution by colonising the entire earth with the Kingdom of God

At a meeting with our Affiliate, we identified the following:

    • There are about 25 schools in the target area,
    • Each estimated to have a population of over 1,000 students
    • 10 students from each school amounts to 250 attendees
    • 100 from each amounts to 2,500
    • 400 from each amounts to 10,000

The vision is huge! We are trusting God for maximum coverage and impact so we are targeting and preparing for 10,000. This event must be "out of the box", "off the chain" and completely unconventional!!! This will definitely be the very first of its kind in the island of Jamaica! Excellence at its highest! Did I mention that we want it to be absolutely free to all attendees? That's our aim because we want no teenager to have an excuse to be absent, they MUST attend!!!

The event will include but not be restricted to the following areas:

  •
    • (The Arts in Worship - music and perhaps dance, sign language
    • Technical engineering - sound, light, video, audio-visual, photography, etc
    • Culinary - foods & beverages
    • First Aid - on standby for emergencies
    • Security - to ensure safety
    • Finance - fundraising, sponsorship, donations, subsidies, discounts, waivers, exemptions
    • Administration - correspondence, database management, website, info management
    • Promotions - advertisements, flyers, posters, emails, text messages, calls, T-shirts, booth set-ups in plazas
    • Sports - friendly games and other events
    • Logistics - to ensure smooth flow of the event
    • Transportation - of personnel, equipment, instuments, foods, other supplies

We want to hit the schools by January so ground work must be in advance stage by then. We'll be promoting it through mass media as well as devotions, meetings and other events at strategis schools.

We will need:
  •
    • To interceed before we proceed for clear direction from God
    • Manpower from the right people
    • Financing from the right sources
    • Skill sets and expertise from the right individuals
    • To research on similar events in first-world countries

We are currently putting together an excellent planning and executing team to start meeting. We will partnering with a number of 'key' persons and organisations in Jamaica and other countries on this life-changing project for our youths.

CHRISTMAS DINNER 2008

Click here to see photos of this event.

This was our first time doing this. We partnered with Spurr Music Empire and Shekinah Ministries to feed 450 homeless in three of Jamaica's major town centres:

  • Down Town in the capital city of Kingston
  • Half Way Tree, capital of St. Andrew
  • Spanish Town the first capital city in St. Catherine
We had interviews on our major local television stations, TVJ & CVM Television as well as radio talkshows, promoting the project and soliciting individuals and organisations to partner with us. There were 89 volunteers who showed up at the historic site of Devon House in Jamaica's capital city on Christmas Day. This national heritage venue is always closed to the public on every Christmas Day but they partnered with us, allowing us to use the facility as our base for the project.

Privately owned vehicles were loaded with food and volunteers as teams were dispatched in convoys throughout the day. We combed through the city impacting the following areas:
  • Papine
  • Liguanea
  • Barbican Square
  • Lady Musgrave Road
  • Hope Road
  • New Kingston
  • Cross Roads
  • Heroes Circle
  • Half Way Tree
  • Hagley Park Plaza
  • Hagley Park Road
  • Three Miles
  • Spanish Town Road
  • Waltham Park
  • Spanish Town

We had local actresses Camile Davis and Sherene Davis take time out of their busy theatre schedule to help us feed 450 homeless people. People from a wide cross-section of society voluteered their time, money, gifts and other resources to make this project a great success. There are some organisations and individuals to whom we owe tremendous gratitude:

  • CVM Television for the first television interview with Wendell Lawrence, Founder and Managing Director of Spurr Music Empire and co-organiser of the project
  • TVJ for a tremendous second interview with Wendell Lawrence that pulled even more volunteers, particularly host Simon Crosskill who impressed upon the viewers and the fastfood outlets to support the project
  • Radio station Power 106, particularly Dervon Malcolm who did an interview with Mark Johnson, Founder & Chairman of Fruitful Trees Ministries and co-organiser of the project
  • Devon House, particularly contact person Nicole Powell who worked hard to make the venue available to us
  • The Devon House Security Team who worked on their day-off to ensure that we had a safe, incident-free day of activities
  • The members and directors of Spurr Music Empire , Fruitful Trees Ministries and Shekinah Ministries who helped to mobilise resources for the project
  • Every single volunteer, driver and doners who gave of their time, money, motor vehicles and other resources to make this project a success

The project was such a success that the organisers are currently looking into repeating it in February 2009 and making it a recurring project, perhaps on a quarterly or monthly basis. Keep checking this page for more details.

BABY RUTH REYNOLDS FOUNDATION

January 10, 2008 the daughter of Jamaican Gospel Music Minister, Ryan Mark, was born prematurely. However Baby Ruth Reynolds died three days after due to the inability to get immediate respiratory support for her. As a result, Ryan Mark was propelled to launch the BABY RUTH REYNOLDS FOUNDATION (BRRF). The Launch of the foundation would be in two folds:

  1. In her memory
  2. To provide ongoing financial support for provision of machinery and equipment necessary in the post natal care of babies particularly those born prematurely. Initial focus is for the Bustamante Children’s Hospital and Victoria Jubilee Hospital.

Fruitful Trees Ministries has joined in this effort to make a donation to assist in the purchase of the abovementioned machinery. Part proceeds of "Shabach! 2008 - Unshackled" will be in aid of this foundation.

FUTURE PROJECTS

HOMELESS

It is so ironic that the business capitals of our country, the very places where significant proportions of incomeare generated, are also the "home" for so many homeless people. Driving along the streets one will see or even encounter someone soliciting small change to buy food or offering to wipe the windscreen of your car for a small change. There are also a few persons who are insane from life's pressures or apparently the abuse of drugs. This may not mean much to the average citizen on the surface but imagine if a mother or a brother was such a victim, one would want to know that there is some provision that will make the victim's life better. These victims are precious human beings like us and need our love and care just the same. There are so many ways in which we can help. Our ministry is still young and still in the process of garnering support from those around us with like passions so that we can reach out to these people. This is definitle something we'll be doing so please keep chicking this page for developments on our Welfare ministry.

ORPHANS

There are so many childrens' homes scattered across our island Jamaica and by extension, the entire world. These children are often emotionally damaged and develop low self esteem which in turn render them disfunctional. Many unresolved issues cause these children, when they become adults, to carry around lots of baggages throughout their lives that inevitably affect their relationships, marriage, parenthood, general ethics and even work attitudes. When these adults have children, the cycle is often duplicated and perpetuated for generations. We want to brake these cycles by impacting these young minds whilst they are still in their formative stages. We will make great men and women from children who would have otherwise been failures.

REMEDIAL READING

A multiplicity of children in and out of schools are practically illiterate to a large extent even up to teenage years. This limits their comptence levels and ultimately their marketability in the job world. This again will affect their self esteem and may cause rebellious, unconstructive  and even destructive behaviour. This has been evidenced in the class rooms of many of our elementary schools where the "slower" students are the "mischief-makers". The psychological explanation may be that they already feel like failures so, "why bother to try?" At this point, they choose to occupy their time with play, mischieve and even dangerous activities. It is not that they are "bad", they simply need real love and care that will grab their attention so that they can be timely developed into epitomy of greatness. This is what we'll be doing.

THE SICK

There are many persons in our communities and the society at large that are suffering miserably will a number of illnessess; sometimes fatal ones too. These persons are generally those who find it challenging to help themselves like the very young and the elderly. Additionally, there are thousands of AIDS victims of varied ages, even children, right accross the Caribbean and the rest of the world who cannot even afford the medication and clinical treatment necessary to maintain healthy lives. We believe that we should be able to redirect resources and influence persons and organisations to give to such causes. Its strange how many of us never see the relevance of helping the sick until a very close friend of relative falls ill. We don't want to turn a blind eye so we hope to embark on such projects and programmes in the future.
